Lynn's life was characterized by a quick wit, generous spirit and a deep faith in God.
The funeral service will be held in the Kipling Community Centre, Kipling, SK on Monday, June 6, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Rick Parkyn and Pastor Richard Barta officiating. Interment in the Bekevar Presbyterian Cemetery.
Lynn was born on the Szabo homestead in the Bekevar District south of Kipling, Sask. to Louis and Ethel Szabo. She shared her childhood with 5 sisters and 4 brothers. She lived a full and rewarding life in the same community for almost 100 years, only moving to Broadview in her later years as her health diminished.
On June 7, 1936, Lynn married Alex Szakacs. The young couple left the farm at Bekevar early in their marriage, choosing to operate a General Store in Inchkeith, Sask. It was during this time that Lynn became one of the early founding members of the Inchkeith Women's Institute. In 1950, Alex and Lynn relocated to Kipling and began a new adventure as the owners of Kipling City Service, a Ford franchise.
During the ensuing years, they raised their three sons, made many friends in the surrounding communities, and became involved with curling leagues, the Kipling Museum Board, Bekevar Presbyterian church and later as active members of The People's Church. Lynn's generosity and 'Gift of Hospitality' were renown; she extended a warm invitation to individuals as well as to large groups of Youth from Bible Colleges, Mission Fields, and to all friends and family members. She was well known as a wonderful cook, having mastered many tasty Hungarian specialties. Even a brief visit with Lynn meant a cup of tea and a decadent dessert in some form, accompanied by a hearty laugh over her most recent joke or misadventure!
At 100 years of age, Lynn could remember the names of every family member, friends, and their 'children's children'. She was also remarkable as an 'Armchair Coach'.... cheering on her Blue Jay's baseball team. Her 'Attitude of Gratitude' sustained her through her lifetime of highs and lows; the death of her daughters, Loretta (age 10) and Ruth (infancy), as well as the death of her husband of 75 years, Alex, in 2009.
Lynn was also predeceased by 8 of her 9 siblings, as well as her precious first born son, Robert (Bob) Szakacs.
Lynn is survived by her youngest brother, Bill Szabo, of Nanaimo, BC and the following family members: Daughter-in- law Jean Szakacs, Son Jack (Deanna) and Son Jim (Kathy). Grandchildren: Bob and Jean's Family; Doug (Yvonne) Szakacs, Laurie (Glen) Muskowy, and Todd Szakacs, Great-Grandchildren Clayton (Brandy) Szakacs, Elliott and Madison Muskowy and Great-Great-Granddaughter Kenzi Szakacs. Jack and Deanna's Family; Shannon Szakacs, Trina (Jonathan) Koops, Great-Grandchildren Jack and Henry Koops. Jim and Kathy's Family; Jana McMullen, Jared Szakacs, Great-Granddaughter: Brettan McMullen.
Special thanks to Beth Sinclair and all the staff of Broadview House for their kind and loving care.
