Edward “Ed” John Giangrande, 70, passed away on June 9, 2020. Born in Everett, MA to the late Catherine (DiBona) and Alfred Giangrande, Ed grew up in Medford, MA and graduated from Medford High school in 1967. He continued his education at Mass Bay Community College where he met his future beautiful wife, Diane. He finished his studies at Northeastern University in Boston with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. It is there that his co-op job would lead to his successful career at the US Government, Department of Defense. He moved up through the ranks for 40 years before retiring as the Director of Cost and Pricing Center. After retiring, Ed and Diane moved to Florida.
Being a sports fanatic, Ed especially enjoyed baseball as he was a pitcher in high school and threw a no hitter. He loved watching the New England Patriots and making his special “Patriots stew” for his family to enjoy during the games.
Wherever Ed went, he became everyone’s friend. He enjoyed talking with people and getting to know their life story. You could always find him with a glass of wine at hand and never leaving without tipping generously. His family was his greatest source of pride. Their favorite vacation spots were Lake Winnipesaukee, NH and many trips to Walt Disney World. He loved bragging about his son, the tornado chaser, and his daughter the college softball player. Whatever the event was, from games to graduation, Ed was always there for his children. To say Ed loved being a grandfather is an understatement. His two precious granddaughters could talk their “Papa” into buying them anything.
Even as his health deteriorated, his spirit never wavered, and this made his bond with family and friends grow stronger. The weekly “zoom” calls with his kids and family became known as a “kitchen party.” He was a generous friend, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Diane (Grassey) Giangrande; children, Scott (Julie Brisebois) Giangrande and Keri (Daniel) Palacio; siblings, Phillip (Linda) Giangrande and Paul (Karen) Giangrande; grandchildren, Selena and Ava; aunt, Theresa Gurney and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Ed will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A funeral mass will be held Monday, June 15, 2020 at 11am at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 1050 Celebration Ave, Celebration, FL 34747.
Since the autism spectrum has touched Ed’s family, in lieu of flowers we ask for donations to be made in Ed’s name to the May Institute, 794 Broadway, Revere, MA 02151, Attn: Mario Ruggiano.
