Some people come into your life and change it forever. For me, that person was Kim.
Our love story began when we were young, and from the night she showed up at the bowling alley while I was home from the military, we were practically inseparable.
Kim had the biggest heart, the most beautiful smile, and an adventurous spirit that knew no fear. From skydiving and scuba diving to kayaking miles offshore, she embraced everything life had to offer. Most of the time, I was just the chauffeur, perfectly content to keep my feet on the ground.
Kim loved people and never met a stranger. She could strike up a conversation with anyone, and her kindness, generosity, and sense of humor touched everyone around her.
But her greatest love was her family. She was an extraordinary mother to Christopher and Amanda, dedicating herself to their happiness and well-being. Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with our children and grandchildren. She loved babies, family gatherings, and making memories with the people closest to her.
Together, we shared a lifetime of adventures. We returned to college alongside our children, with all four of us graduating the same year. We left Maryland to start a new life in Florida, built our home together, and filled it with family, friends, and laughter.
Yet some of our happiest moments were the simplest ones—watching a movie, relaxing at home, or escaping in the camper with our dog, Zoe.
Kim was my best friend, my greatest adventure, and the person who kept me grounded. No matter where I was, all I ever wanted was to be home with her. Just having her near was enough.
After she passed, I discovered she had saved every letter I wrote to her while serving in the military before we married. My heart nearly burst knowing she had treasured those words throughout our life together.
Our life wasn’t always perfect, but our love was real, and we always found our way forward.
Kim leaves behind a lifetime of love, laughter, and memories that will live on through her children, grandchildren, family, and friends.
If I could do it all over again, I would choose her every single time.
