Nancy M. Apple

December 21, 1955July 19, 2012

On July 19, 2012 we lost a strong, feisty, loving woman. She is survived by her husband Stephan Edward Apple, her daughter Jennifer Marie Benca, her son Shaun Edward Apple and three grandchildren, Tanner Jesse, Conner William and Braden Conrad.

Nancy was born on December 21, 1955 in Vallejo California to Janet Ballentine and Clarence Evans. She resided in Vallejo most of her life and graduated from Hogan Senior High School in 1974. She married Stephan Edward Apple in 1973. They have been happily married 39 years. She worked in Vallejo at Coca Cola Bottling Company as an accounts receiving clerk for several years and then worked from home as a daycare provider. Nancy loved children and enjoyed being able to work from home doing what she loved and spending more time with her own family. Nancy and her family enjoyed the outdoors and spent many weekends camping boating and fishing. Fishing was one of her favorite past times.

In 1997 the Apples sold their home in Vallejo and moved to St. Cloud Florida to begin a new life in the country. They had a home built on a large piece of property where they could care for several animals they never could in Vallejo, living in the city. She was a true animal lover, always rescuing animals in need. Over the years she cared for many horses, cows, pigs, dogs, and even a raccoon. The cattle she owned were always her pets and even had names, which most people thought was crazy because raising cattle was typically for the purpose of eventually sending to the butcher. While residing in Florida, Nancy worked several years at Disney World in Housekeeping and Food and Beverage at many different locations. There she made lots of friends and always had amusing stories to tell her family when she came home.

In 2002 Nancy was diagnosed with breast cancer and took a leave of absence to complete her treatment. She didn’t let the cancer beat her down, and before long she was in remission. In late 2004 she was cancer free!! Nancy tried to go back to work at Disney World but was unable to tolerate the heat after her year long battle with cancer. She found employment at Bank of America in St. Cloud as a teller. At the bank she could work inside in the air conditioning but still interact with people, something she loved so much. Again she made a lot of friends and became acquainted with many of the local patrons. Everywhere she went in town, someone always stopped her to say hello and talk. Her employment at the bank ended in 2010 and she became a small business owner by working from home creating personalized embroidered apparel. She enjoyed the flexible schedule and when her third grandchild came along in October 2010, Braden Conrad, she became his care taker while Shaun and Colleen worked. She thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity to spend time with her grandson caring for him and watching him grow.

Nancy was diagnosed with a massive brain tumor on July 16 and was taken to surgery immediately the same week. It was during this surgery that the complications that followed took the life of this precious person we all knew and loved.

She will be greatly missed by all but will be remembered for her feisty personality and ability to always make you laugh. We have comfort knowing that she didn’t suffer and her spirit will remain ever present in all our lives.

Love & Sympathy to all your family. Our family was blessed to have known Nancy, and my daughters are blessed with wonderful memories of time spent with Jen, Shaun, Steve & Nancy, and with Nancy's Mother, Janet, when they were children. Their childhood years were full of fun & good times from time spent with them. They attended elementary school together and Jen & my daughter, Nancy, (a very special name indeed), were the best of friends, and inseparable. Jen was a great kid & my Nancy couldn't have had a better friend. Nancy A. was a wonderful, giving, mother, and the kids always knew where they stood with her. She kept them in line, but they had fun as well. The babies she took care of, when she had her daycare in Vallejo, and my daughter, Laurie, were well taken care of in her home, on those weeks when Laurie had to be in daycare, while I worked. I always knew Laurie was in good & caring hands. I loved Nancy for her honesty & for the love she had for all the children & her own family. I pray you will find comfort in your memories, over the months & years to come. Nancy's life was a blessing, and we were very blessed to have known her, and to know her beautiful family. Love to all of you.

Nancy was my sister in law and best friend. We laughed together (and occasionally cried together) almost every day and I'm going to miss her terribly. I'm so thankful that I got to see her in person last month! I hate that I'm so far away from Steve and the kids....please know that your Aunt Bonnie and Uncle Bruce are here for you any time you need to talk or laugh or cry! We love you.

Steve I am very sorry for your and your family's loss. I can tell you it will hurt always but gets easier to think about all the good things.

Steve and Nancy were the first neighbors we met on our little end of Kaiser Avenue back in 2000 when there were only two houses. They were friendly and welcoming - inviting us to see their newly built house and filling us in on the neighborhood. We knew we'd like it there, and started our new house the same year across the street. We knew Nancy was a unique and interesting girl when she introduced us to her pet cow (bull?). This very large animal thought it was a kitten! It wanted to snuggle up against you! We almost expected it to purr! We laughed and laughed. It was the funniest thing ever - and we will never forget Nancy or the cow (bull?). Mike and Linda Carpenter

There are no words to describe the sadness & shock we felt when we heard of nancys sudden passing. We share an amazing grandson Braden, who had the great gift of being loved & cared for by his Nammy Nancy. Last time we visited w nancy was in Colleen & Shauns kitchen last year where we enjoyed nancys wonderful stories about her daily antics w braden. It makes us smile when we think of how much love Nancy had for all her grandkids & especially our Braden. She was a loving giving woman with a special place in her heart for all her kids, her grandkids & most of all her beloved husband Steve. Nancy you will be missed by so many who loved you deeply and always will. My favorite times w nancy were always standing in a paddock w the horses talking horse stuff & grandkid stuff. I'm guessing those were 2 of her favorite topics also! Nancy, rest well. You will be missed. With all our love, Andi & Kevin Cush

Nancy has been a wonderful "Nammy" to my step-sons, Tanner and Conner. The fact that so many people love and will miss her proves that she was a warm, loving, and very special person. My heart goes out to her friends and family left behind.
