Richard Samuel Wilson
June 28, 1920 – March 15, 2014
Richard Wilson passed away on March 15, 2014, after courageously battling a year long illness. He was born in Philadelphia PA and was a proud veteran of WW II, who served in the US Army 9th division in active combat across Europe and Africa. Richard, also known as Dick, was the recipient of 8 bronze Stars during his time in the military which covered eight different countries. After the war, Dick moved to Wenonah NJ and went to work for Johnson Controls, where he remained a loyal worker until retirement. He was actively involved in the 9th Division Reunion Committee and its many gatherings. He loved to travel and took many cruises to exotic ports. He made quite a few trips to Scotland, where many of his relatives still reside. They, in turn, would come to the states to visit Dick. In his younger years, he was a professional soccer player. Fishing and boating were his passions, and even later, an occasional spin out on a fishing boat gave him great pleasure. Dick had a great sense of humor and an easy-going attitude towards life. He never met a person that he couldn’t strike up a conversation with, stranger or not. Predeceased by his wife Ann and children Linda and Eric(Rick). Survived by cherished, loving companion of many years, Mary, 3 grandchildren, Alex, Carissa and Erin, and 4 great-grandchildren and a fifth on the way. Also many nieces and nephews and an abundance of wonderful friends. There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial at the Hidden Valley Clubhouse, on March 26, 2014 at 4:00 PM with a prayer service by Reverend David Stephens and Honor Guard Service by American Legion Post 286. Friends are welcome to contribute any memories of Dick to the Celebration. Donations in Dick's honor can be made to the U.S. Marines Toys for Tots program or the Orlando Rescue Mission or Hospice. Private cremation will be handed by the Grissom Funeral Home.
