Robert Allen Maurer, LTC USAF (Ret.), 93, passed away on March 17, 2016, in Longwood, FL. Robert was born on July 8, 1922, to Olive and John Maurer in Lorain, Ohio. He joined the U.S. Army-Air Corps in 1941, flew B-17s and B-24s in the WWII European Theatre, was a decorated pilot and instructor, held the Tuskegee Airmen in high regard and was honorably discharged post WWII. He continued with the U.S. Air Force Reserves and retired as Lt. Colonel. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan, and went on to achieve his Masters Degree in Public Health Administration. He also expressed his talents in commercial and graphic arts with his work nationally published. He worked with BCBS, was a hospital and extended care facility administrator, as well as, a consultant well into his 70’s. He enjoyed tennis, bowling, golf, fishing, writing poetry, singing and loved to be with his family.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Bobbie June Maurer. He is survived by his three daughters, Rhonda Renee Maurer-Shultz, Cynthia Rae Maurer, Michele Mari Maurer-Labov; his son, Robert A. Maurer, Jr.; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Robert will be held on April 16, 2016, at 2:00pm, for family and close friends at Grissom Funeral Home in Kissimmee, FL. Donations may be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
