Robert "Bob" H. Swanson, Jr., passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026, in Kissimmee, Florida following an illness and broken heart of losing his wife. Born on June 15, 1942, Bob grew up in Chicago, IL. He was married to his beloved wife Doris on May 24, 1970, and they spent the early years of their marriage in Northern Illinois before moving to Kissimmee, FL in 1985.
Over the course of his life, Bob worked primarily in the trucking and commercial printing industries. However, his truest calling was that of service to our country. Deeply passionate about this, Bob enlisted in the Air Force in 1959 and served many years in active duty. Bob and Doris eventually transferred to reserve duty service with the Navy and he retired from service in 1996, having earned numerous awards and medals during his long military career. His passionate belief in serving one's country led him to encourage many friends and family members to also serve in the United States Armed Forces, and he received certificates of recognition from recruitment offices for his efforts. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). A true patriot, he was known for always flying historical American flags in his yard.
Bob enjoyed being outdoors and could often be found working in his yard or cooling off in the pool. He had a passion for learning and loved history, especially the World War II era. He also loved sports and was a lifelong fan of Chicago sports teams, witnessing championships won by the Bears, Bulls, and Blackhawks. No championship was more joyous, however, than that of the 2016 World Series Champion Chicago Cubs, an event that brought tears of joy to Bob and Doris’s eyes as they shared the moment with their family and raised the “W” flag.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris; his parents, Robert Sr. and Geraldine Swanson; his brother Richard; his sister, Linda; and his daughter, Susan. He is survived by his daughters Alison Swanson Campise (Kelly) and Tara Horton; his grandsons Tyler Horton (Jessie), Timothy Horton (Racheal), and Trevor "Scotty" Horton; and his great-grandchildren Grayson and Anabelle Horton.
