

He worked at the leading news organization in the country, New Nation Newspapers, where he developed a love for photography and became known as the best photographer reporter. Sidney helped shape the photo-journalism industry in Guyana and was offered to serve for the Prime Minister of Guyana as a press photographer, a job he accepted with great pride. As a press photographer, he was awarded his own photo development center “dark room” to develop confidential photographs for the Prime Minister’s Office. Sidney, also was offered to work with the Ministry of Works and Hydraulics as a coordinator until 1981 when he migrated to the United States of America with his family.
Upon migrating to the United States, Sidney worked for 10 years as a Personnel Manager at National Blue print/Merit Studios, and subsequently the New Jersey Transit Railroad for another 10 years as a Motor Equipment Operator. During this time, he received many awards and recognition in honor of his hard work and dedication.
In December 2003, Sidney retired from his professional career and pursued his lifelong hobbies of socializing with family and friends, building, dancing and gardening. He loved life, always had a joke and a story to share. He was truly the life of the party.
In 1975, Sidney married the love of his life Pamela and was a devoted husband, devoted father, devoted grand-father and in most recent times a devoted great grand-father. He loved his family very much. He was also an uncle to many nieces and nephews, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Sidney made his transition from this world on Friday, July 14, 2017. He was predeceased by his parents Evaline Yarde and Ernest Qualis; his brother John and sister Elene Qualis; and grandson Al-Irvin Qualis.
He leaves to mourn, his wife of 42 years Pamela (nee Charles); 4 children: Roxanne, Sydney Jr., Kwame, and, Vanda; 18 grandchildren: Sydney III, Jayhiya, Richard, Osagie, Osaro, Angela, Oscia, Kishmir, Khermara, Sade, Kevin, Kareem, Kishmel, Keziah, Gordon, Jahvair, Manasseh, and Jordon; 2 great-grandchildren: Aiden and Liam, brother: Thomas, daughter-in-law: Karen, son-in-law: Terence, sisters-in-law Patricia, Dorinda, Monica and Megan; brothers-in-law: Vernon, Robert, Lewis, Burch, Fredrick and Keith, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sidney’s spirit lives on in our hearts.
