After a battle with cancer, at Lisaard House on December 24, 2011 in her 84th year.
Born on May 18, 1928, the daughter of the late Leo Leslie Meyer and Florence W. Dooley. Mother of Jonathan J. Fromm and his wife Shannon Russell, Cambridge, Leslee M. Squirrell and her husband J. Michael Finkbeiner, Kitchener and Mary Pat Monteith and her husband Tim Monteith. Grandmother to Matthew and Emily Squirrell, Jeffrey Fromm and Tegan and Pearce Herchenrader. Born and raised in Kitchener and later moving to Waterloo, Laurie worked as a switchboard operator at the Mutual Life Assurance Company, was an avid badminton player at the K-W Granite Club Kitchener, later raising her family on John St. W. She was a medical secretary at Grand River Hospital, the Mental Health Association and executive assistant to the late Dr. Glenn McFadden. An enthusiastic volunteer for the fledgling K-W Art Gallery as well as administrative secretary, Laurie ran the Art Rental program for years (subsequently hung original J. Pollacks and Picasso’s in her living room—temporarily—to expose her children to the beauty of art.) Thanks to the caring staff at Lisaard House, Terrace on the Square Waterloo, CCAC team 7 members and The Cancer Centre. Cremation and a private ceremony have taken place. Donations will be gratefully accepted at Lisaard House as expressions of sympathy.
