Mr. Donald Don Frederick Valentine

1916 - 2010

Passed away at Hospice Wellington, Guelph, on August 28 at the age of 94 years.

Predeceased by Ella, his beloved wife.

Loving father of John and his wife, Karen, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Kathryn and her life partner, Allan Brown, of Scarborough, and Liz, of Oakville.

Lovingly remembered by his four grandchildren, Ben, Bruce, Jennifer, and Tom Valentine; his four great-granddaughters, Mackenzie, Chloe, Sydney, and Paige; his brother-in-law, George and his wife, Joyce, of San Antonio, Texas; and his sister-in-law, Nola, of St. Catharines.

He was predeceased by his parents, William and Isabel, by his brothers,George, Arthur, Bernard, and Murray, and by his sisters, Beth and Marjorie. Born in Kingsville, Ontario, Don was an employee of the Royal Bank of Canada for over 42 years and was active in various communities in Ontario and Nova Scotia during that time. On retirement in Kitchener in 1976, he joined the Retired Business and Professional Men’s Club of Kitchener-Waterloo and enjoyed membership for many years.

Don’s quick wit and kind ways will be missed by extended family and friends in business, curling, golf, volunteer circles, and at the cottage on Allumette Island in Quebec.

Many thanks go to the CCAC Palliative Care Team and the compassionate staff at Hospice Wellington in Guelph, a truly wonderful place in which Don could complete his journey.

In keeping with Don's wishes, cremation has already taken place. A memorial service to celebrate Don's life will be held in the chapel at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. West, Kitchener, on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 2:00 p.m., with family receiving friends one hour prior to service time. Following the service, friends are invited to a reception in the Ratz-Bechtel Family Centre for refreshments and time with the family.
