

McMAHON-RUNCHEY, Doris Leola Doris passed away peacefully on September 19, 2014, at Grand River Hospital, in her 96th year. Surrounded by her family. She was born May 6, 1918 in Simcoe, Ontario to Frances Media. At the age of five, she became the chosen daughter of Joseph Long and Catherine Russel of Brussels. She attended school in Cranbrook. As a young girl, she played the organ at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Brussels. In July 1936, she married, beloved husband Lorne McMahon of Wellesley Township who passed away in 1979. Lorne and Doris had a large family and farmed on the 13th line of Wellesley Township. She will be sadly missed by her children; Rose Hanley (Bernard), Hugh (Elaine) McMahon, Lawrence (June) McMahon, Clair (Debbie) McMahon, Ann McLeod (William), Gary (passed away 2013 (Patricia) McMahon, Michael (Maureen) McMahon, Brian (Geralda) McMahon, Dorothy Evans (Charles), Frances Melchin (Dale), Thomas (Noreen) McMahon and Colleen Rees (George), she will be missed by her 34 grandchildren and 61 great- grandchildren. Predeceased by sons Gary in 2013, Patrick in 1962, Dennis in 1949 and daughter Sharon in 1957. In June of 1983, Doris married Douglas Runchey of Kitchener, who passed away in 2013. She is remembered by Douglas's daughters Jill and Marie and by their families. Doris lived life to the fullest, she enjoyed playing cards, bingo, gardening, quilting, dancing and travel. Memorable trips took her to Florida, Ireland in 1989, and the Holy Land in 2000. Many hours of love were spent making quilts for her children and grandchildren. Doris was an Auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary, and a Perpetual member of the Little Flower. She also was President of the Catholic Women's League in Drayton for six years. She was an active member of the C.W.L. for over 60 years. A Mother holds her children's hands for a while, their hearts forever.
