Douglas Martz

Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Lisaard House during a courageous battle with cancer on July 19, 2013, in his 83rd year. He will be missed by his wife Joan Martz (nee Schnarr). Dear father of Debra Martz Melanson (Edgar), Cheryl Brown (Paul), and Jamie (Wanda). Loved grandfather of Sean (fiancé Devonnie), Jesse, Jason (Tiffany), Ryan, Dylan and Shayna and great grandfather of Julia and step children Kayla and Brandon. Will be remembered by his brother Bruce Martz (Ann) and his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Edgar Martz, his mother Ivy Martz, and his sister Joyce Holden. For over 20 years Doug worked at Grand River, Freeport and St. Mary’s Hospitals, as well as various seniors residences, cutting hair for people who were sick and in palliative care. He said, “that it always put a smile on their face.” Memorial Visitation will be at Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. W., Kitchener, ON N2G 1C7 on Tuesday July 23, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Memorial Service on Wednesday July 24, 2013 at 9:15 am. in the funeral home chapel with reception to follow.
