Linda Lillian Mabel Dautert, daughter of Frieda and Willie Dautert. A sister to Herbert, Willie and Inge. The wife of Ed. A loving  mother to Wendy and Debby. A Grandmother to Chad, Stephanie, Patricia and Christine. A wonderful Great-Grandmother to Abigail, Kaylee. Madison and Charolette. 

My Mom was more than just a Mom; she was my best friend as well. She had a heart that was so full of love she was able to spread that love to all her family and friends.

I think you would agree my Mom had a kind heart, was generous and would give you the world.

She was first a wife and then a mother, a mother who made sacrifices to give her children only the best. We had every opportunity to make our dreams come true with her guidance, wisdom and love.

Mom was there for me in good times and bad. The last 10 years I wanted to be there for her. I visited her every two weeks or more, I bought all her clothes. I did her nails each visit, brushed her hair, massaged her neck and shoulders and put her make-up on. I wanted to make her feel just as proud as she did before she had her stroke. Abigail was very special to her, when Abi was there; Mom focused 100% just on her. She watched her dance and sing and Mom really got involved with her. My Mom would just light up each visit Abi had with her. They had a special bond, that's for sure and that is why Abi made the trip with me so often. Abi made my Mom happy. Just as Abi made my Mom happy, so did Randy she could spot him a mile away and she would get the biggest smile on her face and waved for him to come to her. She held his hand tight and was always rubbing his arm. I knew she loved him

 

In 2003 my Mom made me a proposition, she offered me “X” amount of dollars to quit smoking and this was no small dollar amount. Me quit smoking? Are you kidding! I loved smoking and how could I possibly quit when I tried in the past and failed. I smoked over two packs a day. After hours of going through the many dreams of what I could do with all that money, I decided, I was going to give it a try. I called an acupuncturist and I was able to get an appointment two weeks later. He said to me, you have 6 sessions to come to, don't get down if you have a cigarette because you smoked a lot and smoked for way too long. I had that first session, got in my car and thought, how am I going to get home without a cigarette? I had a bottle of water next to me, drank it, got in the house and went straight to bed. I woke up in the morning, I didn't crave a cigarette and never smoked one again, I did go to the next 5 sessions and I was truly proud of my accomplishment. My Mother had a way of making our dreams come true and to keep us all healthy in the process. I am so grateful for that proposition and I will forever be healthier for it. It's the best thing I ever did in my life and I will be truly indebted to my Mom, she most likely saved my life. Thanks Mom.

What would I do without her? What will I do without her?


Have you ever met a person that you instantly liked them? That was my Mom.

My Mom was an avid bowler and one of the best in the city. She won many awards, high single, double and triple and her team was always in the playoffs. She bowled several times a week and loved the sport, the people she was with and she loved to socialize and have a drink with them later. 

Golf was introduced to her through my Dad and she introduced Wendy and me to the sport at an early age. I remember her dropping us off at Grand River Golf Club each morning at the early age of 8 to play tennis, golf and later use the swimming pool. What an amazing opportunity for us to learn two great sports. Golf was a family affair for us; you could always find Mom, Dad, Wendy and me on the course. We spent golf vacations together and I will always remember the great times we had.

My Mom was a very proud woman. She took pride in her appearance, loved shoes, that's for sure and her hair, it had to be just so. She was very beautiful. I can honestly say I loved being around her. She loved people, it didn't matter who you were or where you came from she always found the good in that person. I was proud of my Mom and so very lucky to have her.

We had secrets, yes a few good secrets and I will keep those with me for the rest of my life as I know she has too. I could always count on her; she was only a phone call away.

I was very fortunate to be able to stop in at my parents' home once or twice a week with my job, for coffee, lunch or dinner and a sleep-over. That was pretty well a weekly ritual, for decades. I never seemed very far away from home and today, I cherish those multitudes of visits. I was always welcomed and it kept me close to my parents.

My Mom and I could shop together for hours on end. We'd laugh, joke and have amazing times together. We were bar buddies, hahaha, she'll get a kick out of that, and I can hear her laughing, now.

Oh I could go on and on, just as my Mom's conversations with me did, but it's time for me to send her off to be with Dad, her parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, friends and my daughter Steph. You are one very beautiful angel now. You are never gone; you will always be in my heart forever.

Today we lay to rest a beautiful women ...mom when I had meet u you were confined to a wheelchair and couldn't talk due to a stoke but u always had a smile on your face ....we will miss u but your finally free to run and talk and I bet ur telling dad all about the past 9 1/2 yrs love u tons and tons okey dokey

I have been friends with Linda's daughter Debbie since the 1960's.
I have many good memories of visiting Islington Ave..and time spent with mrs. T.
Fun lady,so friendly.
Our moms really were special Deb. Let's always remember.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your mother.  I know how much you loved her and how much you cherished the time you spent together.  I also know how much Stephanie loved her as well, and I'm sure they are enjoying their time together again.  She must have been a special lady, and how lucky for her to have you as a daughter!

Deb after losing my mom a year ago I understand the heartache you feel especially on this Thanksgiving weekend as it was the same for me last year.....I was Thankful for having as much time as I did with mom as well as being thankful as she raised me well.  I hope you find comfort in knowing your mom did the same.  She raised you well and she's always been there for you.

Linda Trendell: July 20, 1929 - October 7, 2014

My Mom:

The happiest day of my life was being born. I was so lucky to be chosen to be the daughter of one incredible woman who only cared about the happiness of her family and made huge sacrifices to make all our dreams come true. The saddest day of my life was yesterday when that beautiful woman left this earth.

There aren't enough words or enough space to describe what an incredible woman my Mother was.

She came from a German family that immigrated to Canada with their one daughter Inge and her brother Herbert who decided he did he didn't like it here and stowed away in a boat and headed back to Germany on his own. Herbert was 15 years older than my Mom and her sister 7 years older. My Mom was born here in Kitchener. My Mother also had a step brother 15 years older named Willie after his Dad and he stayed in Germany with his Mom until he immigrated to Canada in search of his other family, which he found when I was about 18 years old and one day I'll tell you that truly amazing story as it is one damn good story. They lived a simple life with my Grandfather always dabbling in something and inventing amazing things. He was truly a character and I actually see a lot of him in Abigail. My Grandmother was a seamstress and a very good one indeed, I loved the pj's she made me each Christmas with my initials embroidered on the pockets. I slept with love surrounding me each night. Her cooking was to die for!

My grandfather was interned when the war started and my Grandmother and her daughters were left to fend for themselves. My Grandmother had her trade and my Mom went out at an early age to wait on tables. She was a strong little cookie of 100 lbs that was determined to carry huge trays and give exceptional service. She worked at The Palladium restaurant and was their best waitress. My Mother learned at an early age the value of a penny.

She met my Dad, Ed and fell madly in love. Neither one of them had anything but my Dad did work for his father in the refrigeration business, while my mother was a bookkeeper at Burns Food and later moved to Zack's clothing as their bookkeeper/accountant. It was a difficult start for them as my Grandparents charged my parents more rent than my Dad made, frustrated by this my Mom and Dad decide to go out on their own and my Dad start a very successful business on his own, well not exactly on his own, my mom was the brains behind everything. He began with Sterling Refrigeration and Thermal Heating and from there my friends; my Dad had an imagination that went wild with my Mom desperately trying to tame it. My Dad thought of businesses to start and my Mom would sit down for hours discussing the pros and cons, Sportsworld was one of my Dad's creations and that was just one to name a few. He was a true entrepreneur with a gift for seeing what was good in the future especially in land developments. I can honestly say that together, they were unbeatable. Sure they made some bad investments but that was all part of the game. 

 
My Mom wanted children so badly, she had a few miscarriages before I was born but I was a wanted child for sure. Then 2 ½ years later my sister Wendy was born,


Mom lived her life for her children; there was no doubt about that. She had her own little bank account just for us and I was blessed to take many trips all over the world with her savings and with her. I thank her very much for those incredible memories as those experiences are ones I will cherish forever.

My Mom was a helper she wanted to help anyone she could, There was never one too poor or too down on their luck for her to talk to. She loved everyone. She smiled at every person she passed.

My Mother became my best friend and as best friends sometimes we did not see eye to eye but that is what made us different. We did love each other unconditionally. My Mom could hold a secret like no other, she was amazing.

When my Dad was diagnosed with melanoma on the inside a rare form a cancer and one they said was fatal, the said he would be gone in 3 months at the most, my determined Mom was there by his side saying that wasn't going to happen. My Mom sought out a Naturopath and together they work on a concoction to cure my Dad's cancer. As you can imagine this was no easy task. The diet completely changed there were herbal remedies given so many times a day. This was not easy on either of them. The love those two had for each other was absolutely incredible. My Dad went into remission several times, the doctors couldn't believe it. They travelled together and did many things that one could not imagine, considering his fate.

Then in 2004 I received a message to come to Grand River hospital immediately. My Mom had a massive stroke. My Dad was in Florida and my sister was in another location in Florida as well. There I sat with my Mom; she was a vibrant, physically fit woman who I honestly could never keep up to. How could this happen? It was her blood pressure that did it. She thought she could control it naturally and it got the best of her. Sometimes both types of medical theories work hand in hand. Now it was my Dad's turn to care for her and that he did. The roles were reverse and now he was determined to pull her through. Wow, my Dad the caregiver? I watched before me the most incredible dad be at my Mom's side day in day out, giving her encouragement, giving her unconditional love and totally determined to get her home. He too was having his issues and you can imagine the condition of my Mom and the stress it was playing on him and his cancer. It was a lot for him. Two years later my Mom still in a nursing home in a state of few words but a little chatter as you can't keep a woman down like that and not have her express her feelings and although confined to a wheelchair was faced with the idea of my Dad not being with her anymore.

The greatest and hardest 30 minutes of my life was the day my Dad asked me to please bring Mom up to see him as he wanted to talk to her. He was admitting himself to palliative care and he would not be seeing her again. I picked my Mom up and brought her to my Dad and I witnessed the hardest thing I have ever had to watch. My Dad telling my Mom how much he loved her and what an incredible life they had and he wouldn't change a thing. My Mother, said, “No, Ed, you must fight, you must live.” Those two always encouraged the other, always. They told each other stories, they held each other tight, they kissed and cried, I cried silently in the background. He thanked my Mom for a beautiful life together and it went on and on. What daughter has the privilege  to witness such amazing love? Well I did and it was beautiful.

My Dad did go into palliative care, where he passed away about a week later,

My Mother the pillar of strength continued on, a determination to live although she did tell me several times that I would never ever want to live like she is living. She had a will. He body had a will since it was in such good shape. She lived because she loved life, she loved her family, and she loved all her grandchildren and her great-grandchild. She wanted to be around to watch them grow. She lived her life for her family; it was everything to her.

So with her family next to her she passed on to her next journey of being with her family, her husband and with Stephanie. I feel at peace with that.

I love you Mom more than anything you could imagine.  Thank you for the most incredible life. You are always in my heart and always in my thoughts.

I only knew Linda for a short time but in that time even though she couldn't speak that well I felt the love of a woman that cared about me and everyone around her. You only had to look into her eyes to feel that kind of love. I will miss you Linda. I love you. Rest in Peace.
