
Dear Weber Family,

It must be said in the outset that this Yank has deep roots in Kitchener soil ... and is ever grateful for that.   "ich bin auch ein Canadien."   For without that, I would be incomplete.

I am in constant gratitude to your dear departed parents, uncle Roy, and now, Aunt Marie.
And remember Julianne with an exuberance that still shines in that remembered smile.

Others, over these many years, may have forgotten, but I have not. 

Both parents, every summer, under the aegis of Mutter and Papa, opened the doors of 157 Waterloo St (the Northward bus took me there from city hall ... as long as I had 5 cents), and was able to hitch-hike the trek those numerous times from Detroit.  Oh, how I dreaded the daily count-down to early September when Michigan schools mandated my return.         

 For that meant:  

 No more street-tar between barefoot-toes that shouldn't have explored below the curb, no more papa-made kites,no more horseshoes at the water-tower, no more night-time glimpses out my secret-room "Kleine Stubbe" where an early moon shone above street-lights and trees ... no more leather-wallet and model-airplane making with my uncle, no more treks to see-him-in-action at the Grand Union Hotel, no more animated daily conversations with both at delicious suppers with attendant lessons in speaking proper German... no more sendoffs on the CCM with pant-leg clips in place to assure a bike-ride trip thru Queen Victoria Park on the way to #10 Mitchell St,  ... no more bouncing and wrestling with infant cousins on kitchen floors,no more mustard-plasters to sooth an aching chest, no more good-night hugs to introduce those childhood dreams.
   
I was allowed only love, comfort, attention - as well as the surrogate parental discipline (Marie could administer it with a detected twinkle in her eye).  I ask, "What young lad ... (breathes there any?), particularly a 6 to 16 year old downright-mischievous American-type, that doesn't require a few occasional pats on the back - provided they are administered low enough?"  She didn't disappoint !!

And so this "summer's-son"says goodbye -- to a dear and sweet soul, knowing that among those who welcome her await a family of loving others -- who have shared her life on this side of heaven.

To Renée and the rest of the Weber family,

I'm so sad to hear of your mother's passing but, as you say, she had an incredibly long and rich life. Although I hadn't seen her in many years, I always think fondly of the time I spent at your parents house before a night of carousing in Kitchener.

To keep with the food theme, I immediately think of the time your Mom asked us what we wanted for dinner and I urged you to suggest potato pancakes (still a favourite of mine and hers were THE BEST). She reluctantly agreed, but only if we peeled and shredded the potatoes - small price to pay for those delicious morsels.

She was a lovely lady and your Mom - so especially dear to me.

She was one "sassy" lady. We always had such fun when she came to visit us in Reno. Then there were all those summers with your family in Kitchner / Waterloo hangin' with the cousins. Farewell Great Aunt Marie.

Dear Renee,
We send our sincerest condolences to you, your family, and loved ones. Celebrate her life as you think about the amazing things she was witness to during her very long life. Know she lived during an incredible century.

Dear Mom,
You were always there for me when I needed you. I tried to be there for you as much as I could.
Thank you for teaching me to be a good caring and compassionate person.
I know that you took great pride in providing for us kids. Especially providing good food. I am thankful that you taught me to cook and take care of the people that I love like you did. 
I also loved your sense of humour and you were easy to make smile! We shared lots of laughs.
Even though it wasn't said as often as it should have been I love you with all my heart and you will always be in my heart forever. 
Rest in Peace Mom! 
Please give Dad and Julie big hugs for me!!

We have many fond memories of Marie when she and Roy would visit us on Predmore Road and we would come to Kitchener for her excellent cooking and warm family welcome.  We miss her and send our prayers to Marie and Roy now together in heaven.  Love,
