Allen Dale Smith, age 65 passed away peacefully on May 29, 2024 at his home. Dale was born in Huntington, WV to the late Jake and Greathel Hatfield Smith. He grew up in South Point, Ohio and graduated from South Point High School where he earned a golf scholarship to the Ohio State University.
After attending OSU briefly, he relocated to Nashville, TN and began his own business, Special Tees, touring with several country music artists. After selling the business, he worked for Nationwide Credit in Hendersonville, TN and Atlanta, GA, where he managed the call center. Dale and his family relocated to Knoxville, TN where he was employed by CVS Health as a work at home supervisor.
Dale is survived by his wife of 28 years, Debbie Young Smith; daughters, Whitney (Alan) Russell of Nashville, TN and Jessica Smith of Knoxville, TN; son, James T. Smith of Knoxville, TN; niece, Danette Burchfield of Maryville TN, and nephew, Brent Smith of Nashville, TN. In addition to his parent’s, Dale was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Deana Smith; sister, Brenda Smith and brother, Dannie Smith.
Dale attended Immanuel Church in Knoxville, TN. He was ordained and served as a deacon at College Heights Baptist Church in Gallatin, TN and at Acworth First Baptist in Acworth, GA. He served many years as an AWANA leader and as an Upward Sports Coach. He was a true man of God who prayed continually for his family, friends, co-workers, and anyone he saw in need.
Dale touched many lives and was affectionately known as “Big D” to co-workers and friends.
A visitation will be held for Dale on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 12pm at Berry Highland West Funeral Home with a service to follow at 2pm. A graveside service will be held at 3pm at Berry Highland West Cemetery.
