Wednesday, November 24th, 2021, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born June 10, 1942, as the only child of Martha Cheek Horn Cafferky and Andrew E. Cafferky, Sr. Buddy grew up on Chickering Road in Nashville and attended McCallie (Chattanooga) and Montgomery Bell Academy (Nashville) preparatory schools, graduating from MBA in 1960. He was an exceptional athlete being named to the Nashville Banner’s All-Nashville 1959 high school football team for MBA as a tight end.
After accepting a full athletic scholarship, he attended the University of Tennessee from 1960 to 1964 where he was a member of the 1960 UT freshman football team until an injury ended his career. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity and participated in their Carnicus and All Sing effort. He was a member of the UT Singers, Glee Club, and Madrigal Singers. He was a member of the Honor Guard and the Queen Ann Salute. He graduated in 1964 from the University of Tennessee with degrees in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and Psychology/Mathematical Statistics and Probability.
He started to work as a stockbroker upon graduation for J. C. Bradford in Knoxville. He won the Boston Globe’s AT&T Stock Trading Contest in 1982. Also in 1982, he won Oil Man of the Year as President of Francis Petroleum. In the late 80’s he started his own investing business, Blue Chip Information Corporation in Knoxville. During his time in Knoxville, he never missed a chance to sing in the choir of the church he was attending, Bearden United Methodist Church, Lake Hills Presbyterian Church, and Cokesbury United Methodist Church.
He semi-retired from trading in 2006 and moved to Pompano Beach, FL to take care of his beloved mother and where he enjoyed boating, entertaining friends and family, playing bridge, golf, tennis, and serving as the Commodore of the Pompano Yacht & Beach Club.
He was an accomplished cook of comfort foods and prepared favorites for his family especially around holidays and special occasions. He would say that whatever he prepared was nothing compared to Daisy’s homemade fried apple pies. Besides Daisy’s fried pies, he loved a cold Arnold Palmer (sweet tea and lemonade) on a hot day, hot Krispy Kreme doughnuts with his coffee in the morning, a good Reuben for lunch, and a rare ribeye steak for dinner.
He moved back to Knoxville in 2014 with his beloved Tennessee Coon Hound, Roscoe, where he lived with Roscoe until his death. It was also in Knoxville he recommitted his life to Jesus Christ.
Buddy was gregarious, fun loving, never meeting a stranger. He loved his family, pets (especially Weimaraners), anything UT, Christmastime, and celebrating all things passionately. He had a big heart and was known for his generosity.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father. Survived by children Kelly Teague (Rob) and Martha Kolleen Cafferky (Brad Taylor) of Charleston SC, Andrew E. Cafferky, III of Orlando FL, and Katie Cafferky of Knoxville, TN and 3 granddaughters, Taylor Kay Teague, Lillie Anna Teague, and Graycen Kelly Teague of Charleston, SC.
