Anne M. Lewis, age 69, of Knoxville, formerly of Nashville, TN, passed away Thursday, May 27, 2021. Anne was born in Pulaski, Tennessee on June 14, 1951. The family soon moved to Nashville, TN where she attended Donelson High School. After graduation, she enrolled at East Tennessee State University. She transferred to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where she received her BS degree in Education. She was hired by Knox County Schools and was placed at Mount Olive Elementary. She taught there for 44 years and touched the lives of many children as well as co-workers. Anne loved the University of Tennessee sports, especially, football and had season tickets for many years. She loved to travel, especially to the Gulf Coast of Alabama and Disney World. She loved her many pets, especially her dogs, Jake and Zoe.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph N. Matthews; mother, Edna T. Matthews and nephew, Samuel Matthews.
Survivors are brother, Steven Matthews (Angela); nephews, Brian (Ashley), Russell (Kaylie) and Alan Matthews; great-nephews, Jackson, Ethan and Logan; great niece, Ryleigh and special friend, Susan Rohrer.
The family will receive friends Friday, June 4, 2021 between the hours of 5:00pm-7:00pm in the parlors of Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Hwy. Anne will be interred at Donelson Presbyterian Church in Nashville, TN at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Young-Williams Animal Center, 3201 Division St. Knoxville, TN 37919.
