Arbin Julius (A.J.) Owens, age 95, died on March 30, 2024. Born on July 2, 1928, he was one of eight children born to Harvey Linvelle and Lora Harris Owens. He was married to the late Ruth Baxter Owens for over fifty years, and is survived by daughters, Scarlett Evans (husband Ray) and Angela Gilbert (husband Dale); three grandchildren, Heather Evans Surlas, David Austin Gilbert and Phillip Avery Gilbert; three great-grandchildren, Kaiden Ephraim Surlas, Olivia Leanne Gilbert and Brady Baker Gilbert.
A.J. owned an 11-acre farm in Knoxville for almost 60 years and lived on that farm a little over 30 years. He had several horses throughout the years that he loved to ride and care for. A large and spotless John Deere tractor was certainly one of A.J.'s favorite possessions. He thoroughly and actively enjoyed driving, riding, and mowing with his tractor up into his early 90's.
A.J. was a member of Fountain City United Methodist Church. Though too young to enlist, he served his country as a teenager in WWil, by repairing tanks for the Army. A.J. worked for Plantation Pipeline and later for Colonial Pipeline, retiring as the Chief Operator for Colonial's Knoxville stations.
The family would especially like to thank the staff at Morning Pointe Assisted Living in Hardin Valley as well as the staff at Parkwest Hospital for being so nice and doing such a great job taking care of A.J.
Private services will be led by Rev. Don Hanshew.
