Benna M. Chapman

CHAPMAN, BENNA MAE (PROFFITT) - age 87, of the Karns community, went to her heavenly home Wednesday, April 23, 2014. She was born in Sneedville, TN. She had been a member of Grace Baptist Church for 64 years and actively participated in many senior activities, sang in the senior choir, and dearly loved the ladies in her Bible Study class. Benna was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who generously helped others. She was loved by all who knew her. She was an avid reader, enjoyed baking, gardening, and raising flowers. Preceded in death by her spouses, Edwin Proffitt, the father of her children, and Richard Chapman; parents, Herman and Zora Brewer; sister and brother-in-law, Laura Jean and Hugh Lindsey; granddaughter, Stephanie Proffitt Sise; grandson, Lewis Love. Survived by sons, Steve (Barbara) Proffitt, Ray (Hazel) Proffitt, Ronnie (Krista) Proffitt, Jody (Paige) Proffitt, Ernie (Karen) Proffitt, and daughter, Cathy (Herman) Love; ten grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren. The family extends sincere appreciation to the CCU units at UT Medical Center for their compassionate and loving care of our mother. The family will receive friends Friday, April 25th, at 6:00-8:00 pm at Weavers Funeral Home, 5815 Western Avenue, Knoxville, TN, with service immediately following with Rev. Mark Braddom officiating. Family and friends will meet 10:45 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Woodlawn Cemetery for 11:00 a.m. interment. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Steven Proffitt, Brian Proffitt, Dallas Love, Jeremy Proffitt, Dalton Proffitt, Spencer Proffitt, and Garrett Proffitt.
