Juanita Beryl Spurling Knight died peacefully on Thursday, April 7, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 27, 1926, to Anna Lea and Walter Love Spurling. Beryl was married to Herbert William Knight for 51 years before his passing in 1998.
She attended The University of Tennessee and was employed by Knox County Schools for 30 years, much of that time spent as the guidance counselor secretary at Doyle High School. She enjoyed the students and close personal relationships she formed with faculty and staff throughout her tenure. A long-time member of Stock Creek Baptist Church and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class, she loved her Lord and Savior and her sweet church family. Nobody could make a chess pie or chocolate cake with caramel icing better than Mom. She often donated her pies and cakes to community and church bake sales. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who loved unconditionally and gave sacrificially to all of us.
Survivors include daughters, Cindy Stansberry (Mike), Debbie Hubbs (Gary), son Steve Knight (Melissa), daughter Linda Thomas (Dicky), and brother Ron Spurling (Martha), 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and several special nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are her grandsons Josh Knight, Ryan Thomas, Blake Thomas, Zac Thomas, brother Ron Spurling, and son-in-laws Mike Stansberry, Gary Hubbs, and Dicky Thomas. Honorary pallbearers are her 13 great-grandsons.
We are deeply grateful to the staff, nurses, and caregivers at Northshore Heights Senior Living who provided excellent care for Mom.
Visitation will be at Stock Creek Baptist Church on Sunday, April 10, 2022 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service to honor a life well lived. Burial will be at Stock Creek cemetery immediately following the service. Reverend Gene Wood officiating. The service will be livestreamed on the Berry Funeral Home Facebook page. Flowers or memorial contributions to Interfaith Health Clinic are sincerely appreciated.
Mom, thank you for the wonderful childhood memories and the Christian upbringing, wisdom, and legacy you have left us. You will be missed more than words can say.
