Cousin Hannah Elizabeth Rimmer Bacon (Betty) was truly an outstanding Christian lady. Betty lived her beliefs in God daily with all she came in contact, regardless if known or stranger.

Betty was a talented business lady working many years in accounting as well as advertising and marketing. She would offer suggestions to me on marketing that was really good and appreciated.

Betty and husband William Bacon (Bill) were known as Tennessee Volunteer fans. Betty told about many trips to away games as well as going to home games by boat. They seldom missed a UT football game or Lady Vols & Mens basketball game. After Bill' death, Betty did not miss watching many games or if not on TV she would listen on radio.

Betty's determination in finding out about her Rimmer family lead her to associations all over the world. She had relatives who became very close friends/family due to her work. A couple of years ago, Betty assembled a book on Rimmers-Four Generations 1755 to 1809. When Betty was told of a new Rimmer child being born, she would give them a printed descendancy chart starting with James in 1755 to the new baby.

Betty was a very active member of Macedonia United Methodist Church. Through the years she had served on all business committees and services including cooking for many functions. She always helped in any way needed.

Betty and Bill included in their close friends, Pete Arwine. After Bill's death, Pete took care of Betty's home, yard, car or truck. Betty told me, Pete called daily just to make sure she did not need anything. Betty truly loved and appreciated his taking care of her like she was his mother. 

Betty had not only taken care of two nieces, she also took care of many of her family and friends. She was truly a loving, caring individual. We all learned to appreciate her prayers, advice and direction.

Betty is certainly going to be missed in my life. The daily phone calls and many short trips mostly to different area of Knoxville and surrounding counties. In late September we went for a drive around downtown Knoxville. Betty was so amazed at the changes especially to the areas she had worked. She told me so much about the buildings, eating places and businesses that used to be there. Her mind and memory was so great. She corrected me on a grandfather's birth  date a week before her death. We enjoyed our visits and talks so much.

I am certain Betty is already busy at work in her new eternal home, doing everything God has planned for her to do.

My cousin, Betty, was a sweetheart. She thought of everyone and everything first. She loved her kitty inky so much. She relished in talking about family, Tennessee football games and riding down the river to the stadium. We were sitting close to each other at a reunion. Betty whispered to me "we need something to recognize our James and Phoebe". Thus the idea of the memorial or monument was born. betty, rest in peace with our ancestors we searched so diligently for year after year.

So sorry for the passing of Betty; but so grateful for her research into the Rimmer family. I know how much my aunt, Dorothy (Dottie) Fern Rimmer Scheer, thought of Betty. Condolences to her immediate family from one of her extended Rimmer cousins.

Aunt Betty was a great lady and the matriarch of our family.  Her tireless historical research for our family will never be forgotten.  And I remember fondly many childhood visits with her and Bill during our trips to Knoxville.  Rest in peace, Aunt Betty.

Great Aunt Betty was such an inspiration to everyone she met. I am forever grateful for her family history research dedication. She is a woman who lived her faith. I will miss her wonderful family stories. Rest in peace, Aunt Betty. The world is a much better place because of you.

Even tho I never got to meet her, I talked on the phone with her and corresponded with her in our quest for our Rimmer roots. She was always so helpful and sweet.

Aunt Betty was such a dear. I am so thankful for her and for her work in researching the Rimmer family history. What a blessing to visit with her thus past summer.

Cousin BETTY became our sixth generation matriarch, doing so much to share our Rimmer and Whitfield and relateds history going back to mid-1700s. She faithfully journeyed back to Jefferson County, and to N.C. where her Old John & Polly began their family starting in 1800.  At our Reunion in Statesville in July 2008, she proposed we honor our patriatch James with a marker at Wheelers Church, which he and wife Elizabeth Phoebe Ruffin Rimmer joined in June 1802. In July 2015 Betty cut a ribbon re-dedicating our Rimmer Monument to the first 2 N.C. generations. So Betty, well done! Say hello to Phoebe, James, my Samuel & Eliza. Save the rest of us a place.
