She was a Young High School graduate in the class of 1947 and a University of Tennessee graduate in the class of 1974. Betty joined Stock Creek Baptist Church as a young 19-year-old bride in 1948 and served in various leadership roles for seventy-eight years.
She was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Thelma Straine, son Timothy Edward Maples, sister Bonnie Straine Blanton, and husband of 68 years Charles Edward Maples (USMC).
She is survived by son, John Mark Maples (Cathy); daughters Melissa Beth Maples Johnson (Jim); Melanie Faith Maples Harris (Randall); Dr. Maria Ellen Maples; sister, Carole Straine Coffey (Burtchel); and niece, Cathy Chambers Hill (Jim). Also, she is survived by her grandchildren: Bradley James (Lindsay) Johnson, Sarah Catherine (Joshua) Sagraves, Megan Michelle (Matt) Talley; Seth Edward (Bethany) Maples; Stephen Carl (Hana) Maples, Elijah Christopher (Hannah) Harris, Gabriel Timothy (Destiny) Harris, Samuel Edward (Cindy) Harris; and her great-grandchildren Mason Matthew Talley, Braden James Johnson, Caroline Christina Johnson, Peter Joshua Sagraves, Oscar Jeremiah Maples, Myles Avery Talley, Lincoln David Sagraves, Adalyn Faith Harris, Walker Jackson Sagraves, Joanna June Harris, AnnaGrace Beatrice Maples, Aiden Timothy Harris, Ella Kate Maples, Sullivan Maples Harris, and Charlotte Claire Maples.
The family will receive friends on September 13th from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM at Stock Creek Baptist Church, 8106 Martin Mill Pike, Knoxville, with a memorial service to begin at 3:30. She will be laid to rest immediately following in the church cemetery with Pastor Buddy Johnson officiating.
