Bettye Jo Carroll Giles, age 94, of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away at home peacefully Wednesday, April 3, 2024 with her family by her side. She was a 1946 graduate of Knoxville High School. She started her career at Southern Bell where she met her husband, G.T. Bettye was a lifelong member of South Knoxville Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday School for years. Bettye was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and she was a Tennessee sports fan, even to the point of taking a job in the UT athletic department. She was presented several awards from the City of Knoxville for her secretarial skills. Bettye enjoyed traveling around our beautiful country but especially enjoyed traveling to the Holy Land. Her hobbies were bowling, crocheting, knitting, and she loved sharing her creations with her family. Family and her faith were very important to Bettye, and she loved living life to the fullest.
Bettye was preceded in passing by her husband Guy Truman Giles; parents, William Gordon and Jennie Lee Carroll; sisters, Helen Carroll, Mary Sue Sansone and brothers, BIll Carroll, Bob Carroll.
She leaves behind to mourn her passing and to celebrate her homegoing, her loving and dedicated children, Guy Stephen Giles, Carol Ann (Donnie) Taylor, Gregg (Laura) Giles, Mark (Teresa) Giles, Alan (Yaci) Giles, David (Carol) Giles, Elisabeth (Jim) Murray; grandchildren, Jennifer Duncan, Joshua Giles, Jeffrey Giles, Matthew Giles, Henrique Giles, Nicholas Giles, Christian Giles, Johnson Giles, Cassidy Gupton, Elliot Giles, Allison Murray, Christopher Murray; great-grandchildren, Kaden Duncan, Kolton Duncan, Bellamy Giles, Chloe Giles, Ryan Giles, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Family and friends will gather at South Knoxville Church of Christ, 4604 Chapman Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920 on Thursday, April 11, 2024, for a receiving of friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm with a memorial service to follow at 7:00pm. Graveside services will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, 4500 Woodlawn Pike, Knoxville, TN 37920 on Friday, April 12 at 11:00am. Minister Tom Miller to officiate the services.
