Billy Wayne Smith

Billy Wayne Smith, age 85 of Knoxville, TN, passed away peacefully at home October 1, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was co-owner of Woodsmith Market and Deli and founded Woodsmith Real Estate. He enjoyed all things outdoors: from hunting and fishing to gardening and watching the wildlife. He was an avid Vols fan, and never missed a chance to cheer for his team.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce D. Smith and Margaret L. (Vowell) Smith; siblings, “Ott” Arthur A. Smith, Anna Marie (Smith) Everett, Lela Faye (Smith) Jones, and Bruce D. Smith, Jr.; and wife of 63 years, Wilma Ann (Cate) Smith.

He is survived by his twin sister, Betty Jane (Smith) Wyrick; daughter, Teresa and husband Jim Wardley; son, Randy Smith and wife Sharon Sutton; grandchildren, Halley (Tyler) McCarter, James (Megan) Wardley, Justin Wardley, and Jackson (fiancée Jenna) Sutton; great-grandson, Alex Wardley; and his much loved cat, Buddy.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to special friend, Brenda Moore, for always being there.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Young Williams Animal Center. Family will receive friends Sunday, October 5, at Weaver’s Chapel from 4-6 PM with the service to follow at 6 PM. Family and friends will meet Monday, October 6, at 10:45 AM at Lebanon Cemetery for an 11 AM interment.
