

Born on July 5, 1951, Brenda was a devoted Christian, loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who touched the lives of many through her kindness, faith, and love for family.
Brenda was a longtime member of New Salem Baptist Church. She loved the Lord deeply and found great comfort and joy in reading her Bible. She cherished being a Mamaw and treasured every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Brenda also had a special love for cats and enjoyed the simple blessings of home and family.
She was preceded in death by her adoptive parents, Cecil and Mary Sorells; biological mother, Ailene Rush Butler; twin sons, Daniel Paul and Douglas Ray Carter; son, Timothy Carter; daughter, Laura Breeden; grandson, Daniel French; and several brothers and sisters.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Melissa Carter (Jimmy Perry); grandchildren, Jamie French (Cheyenne), Kelsey French (Travis Waller ), Derek Hatchell, Phillip French, Heather Monday, Dale French, Larissa Breeden, Zoe Breeden, and Josh Breeden; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Paul Covington (Joyce); sisters, Debra Plott (Benjamin) and Virginia Faye Holt; along with several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the chapel of McCarty Evergreen Funeral Home, 7426 Asheville Highway, Knoxville, Tennessee 37924.
Family and friends will meet on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery on Smith School Road in Knoxville for a 1:00 PM graveside service officiated by Rev. Johnny Lane. Jimmy Perry, Jamie French, Dale French, Josh Breeden, Phillip French and Lucas French will serve as pallbearers.
