

Carl Robert “Bob” Reed, age 90, a resident of Tellico Village and formerly of South Knoxville, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2017. He was a long time member and Deacon of Sevier Heights Baptist Church. Bob was instrumental in establishing the church day care center and The Barn and Bus Ministries. Later, he attended Tellico Community Church. Bob attended Young High School, and before graduating, volunteered in the US Navy and served during World War II. Upon returning he married the love of his life, Mary Jo Garner, and began his career as a stone mason. A quick study, Bob soon became a home builder himself. With his construction knowledge and passion for serving the Lord, Bob went on numerous mission trips to Brazil to build churches and spread the gospel. Bob was generous beyond measure, not only giving to family and friends, but to the church and anyone in need. He loved traveling and playing and watching sports “Go VOLS!” Even at 90, he rarely missed a tee time with his Tellico golf group. Most of all, Bob loved spending time with his family around the dinner table. Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Jo Reed, parents, Frank and Rosa Reed, and six siblings. Survivors include daughters, Carleen Gerken, Rhonda (Doug) Beaty, Melody (Jeff) Stansberry, Tracy (Hobbs) DeWitt; grandchildren,Matt (Tiffany) Gerken, Aaron Gerken, Blair, Reed and Maddison Beaty, Taylor and Blake Stansberry, Olivia DeWitt; greatgrandsons, Isaac Gerken and Robert Beaty. Graveside service will be held Saturday, 1:00 pm at Woodlawn Cemetery, 4500 Woodlawn Pike, Knoxville, TN 37920, with Rev. Craig Cummings, Rev. Bobbie Dukes, and Linda Tipton officiating.
