Carolyn McNeese Hagood

Carolyn McNeese Hagood, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away on August 11 at the age of 90. She was born on July 31, 1936, in the Lost Mountain community of Greene County, Tennessee, to Guy and Mary McNeese.

Carolyn graduated from Baileyton High School in 1954 before studying Elementary Education at East Tennessee State University. She taught elementary school at Newmansville in Greene County, TN and at Bulls Gap in Hawkins County, TN, as well as in Chambersburg, PA. Later, she was employed for many years by Comer Pharmacy in Knoxville, TN and Hidden Lakes Pharmacy in Somerset, NJ.

Carolyn enjoyed playing bridge, was a member of the Omni Club, and was a faithful member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church for many years. She treasured time with her family and friends and will be remembered for her warm spirit, her sense of humor, and her love for others.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Mary McNeese; her father-in-law and mother-in-law Clifton and Willie Hagood; her granddaughter, Jillian Hagood; her brothers-in-law, Jimmy Murray and Bill Lee; and her sister-in-law, Kathryn Jackson.

Carolyn is survived by her beloved husband of more than 68 years, James Hagood; her sons, David Hagood (Donna) and Derwin Hagood (Sheri); and her six grandchildren: Amelia Hagood, Abigail Stanfill (Joshua), Haley Flanery (Ray), Taylor Hagood (Kait), Hannah Oppenheimer (Reese), and Holly Keyes (Thomas).

She is also survived by her five great-grandchildren: Greenlee Stanfill, Hudson Hagood, Hayden Hagood, Hendon Hagood, and Emmy Oppenheimer.

Additional survivors include her sisters, Jane Murray and Marjorie Bullen (Jack); her brother, Don McNeese (Linda); her sister-in-law, Jean Lee; her nieces and nephew, Charlotte McCurry, Joanna Lee, Stephanie Lee, Tara Hensley (Neil), Renee McCartt (Chris) and Jonathan Bullen; as well as her great-nephew and great-nieces and a great-great niece, Ben Hensley (Blake) and Rockie, Katie Hensley, Ellie Hensley, and Kendall Swift (Adam).

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to dear friends—Nona, Mohamed, Hadeel, Mariam, Menna, Aya, and Summer—for the compassionate love, friendship, and exceptional care they provided.

The receiving of friends will be Saturday, August 15 at noon at Cokesbury Church at 9908 Kingston Pike. A celebration of life will be held immediately following at 1:30pm with the burial at Berry Highland West at 3pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Cokesbury Church.
