Carolyn Sue Lanier Smith

Carolyn Sue Lanier Smith, of Seymour, TN, age 76, passed away Sunday evening, January 14, 2018, after a long 15 year battle with dementia. Carolyn was born in Alford, Florida and moved to Dayton, Ohio at age 14, where her parents worked at General Motors. After graduating high school, Carolyn also went to work for GM. She soon met what was to become her lifelong sweetheart, Rodney Smith and they married in 1959. Carolyn later worked at Far Hills Baptist Church as Secretary to the Pastor. She retired in 1996 from TVA where she worked in the human resources department for 17 years. Carolyn is preceded in death by her father, Julian Lanier; mother, Lorene Morris Lanier; sister, Julia Ann Lanier; brother, Jimmy Lanier. Carolyn is survived by husband, Rodney Smith; 3 sons, Curt Smith and wife Crystal, Ringgold, GA, Jeff Smith, Ringgold, GA and Sam Smith and wife, Renee, Andersonville, TN; grandchildren, Ashley Smith (Jason) Kyle, Luke Kyle, Knox Kyle, Sterling Smith (Cody) Grimes, Natalie Grimes, Cooper Grimes, Greyson Grimes, Kelcee Smith, Rachel Smith, A.J. Smith, Johnathan Smith and sister, Doris Lanier Shephard. Family will receive friends, Sunday January 21, 2018 from 2:00pm until 4:00pm at Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Service will follow at 4:00pm.
