Carolyn Zachary

Carolyn Zachary, age 86 passed away peacefully at Holston Health and Rehabilitation Center on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 with friends by her side. She was born and grew up in Knoxville, graduating from Central High School, Class of 1955.

Carolyn worked at South Central Bell and retired after 32 years from BellSouth to care for her mother. She maintained a relationship with her work family throughout the years.

Carolyn was a lifelong member of Second United Methodist Church and the Abundant Life Sunday School class. She was in charge of the Clothes Closet and kept a terrific inventory for those in need. She loved to share stories of those she met and cared deeply about. We counted on her to tell a joke every Sunday morning.

Carolyn traveled extensively with friends, best friend and neighbor, Linda Hackney. She enjoyed books from the church library, crossword puzzles, and chocolate cake from Litton's restaurant.

A special thanks to neighbor, Jim Gilliam, who kept the heat and air working and delivered the mail and newspaper to the back door daily; also, the very kind and professional staff at Holston Health and Rehab Center.

She was preceded in death by parents, James and Helen Zachary; sister, June Lindauer; brother, Robert Zachary.

A graveside service for Carolyn will be held Monday, March 25, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Lynnhurst Cemetery, 2300 Adair Dr, Knoxville, TN 37918 with Rev. Betsy Denton officiating.
