Charles "Randy" Compton III

Charles “Randy” Randolph Compton III, age 80, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away on September 10, 2026. Born May 2, 1946, Randy lived with steady purpose and a quiet strength that earned the respect of all who knew him. A member of the Class of 1964 at Young High School, he carried forward the kind of practical wisdom that is built over a lifetime—through work, service, and devotion.

Randy was married to his devoted wife, Sharon, for 57 years. He found enjoyment and fellowship in playing golf and billiards. He also served in the Marine Reserves. Randy retired from Charah in 2020, after years of hard work and steadfast success and commitment.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Randolph Jr and Dorothy Neubert Compton; brother, David Compton; and sister, Elizabeth Ann Starleaf.

Randy is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Compton; daughter, Lacey Compton; son, Nick Compton; grandchildren, Taylor Fine Compton Phelps, Nicklas Ryan Compton, Cobey Reid Compton, Layla Cheyenne Bowman, Alec Compton, and Audra Compton; brother, Nolan Compton (Deanna); sister-in-law, Rebecca Compton; brother-in-law, Dennis Starleaf; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be planned at a later date by family.
