

Charles Vernon Hardin, 92, of Knoxville, TN, went to be with his loving Lord on October 23, 2022, after a brief illness. He was born in Knoxville and graduated from Knoxville High School. He was employed as a shipping clerk at Tom’s Potato Chip company where he met the love of his life, Edna Helen Crick. Following an honorable discharge from the US Army, he felt very fortunate to be employed by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) where he worked for approximately 40 years.
Charles and Edna were happily married for 62 years. He was a loving, generous, supportive husband, father and grandfather. He loved traveling the backroads and always rose to meet life’s challenges with a steadfast commitment to doing what was right. He enjoyed woodworking, studying the Bible and sharing his insight with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Grace Hardin; wife, Edna; and brother, Robert. Charles is survived by: sister, Pauline Richardson, of Dallas, PA; sons, Daniel Hardin (Betsy), Gary Hardin (Jane), Carl Hardin (Karen), and daughter, Linda Leigh-Bell (Patrick) all of whom reside in Knoxville; daughters, Janice Ascher (Brian), of Durham, NC, and Sandy Franks (Chris), of High Point, NC. Grandchildren: Dr. Sara Hardin; Ethan, Matthew, Seth Hardin; Allison Holloway, Michael, Jonathan, Christopher Ascher; Isaac, Noah, Sophia, Rebecka, Eliza Franks.
Friends will be received by the family at Berry Highland Memorial, located at 5315 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN on Saturday, October 29, 2022 from 12:30 until 2:00 PM with a Celebration of Life and Memorial service being held immediately thereafter.
