Charles "Charlie" Albert Towle

Charles “Charlie” Albert Towle, age 88, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2026, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose faith, love, and joyful spirit touched the lives of so many.

Charlie was a devoted member of Meridian Baptist Church for 60 years. His faith was an important part of his life, and he treasured the friendships and fellowship he found within his church family. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, carrying with him a deep sense of honor and dedication.

Charlie worked for the United States Postal Service until his retirement at the age of 54. Following retirement, he devoted his time to two of his greatest passions: artwork and family. A man of remarkable artistic nature, Charlie spent countless hours drawing and painting. Eventually, he turned his talents toward watercolor painting, creating a beautiful collection of floral and scenic artwork. His paintings found their way into many homes and businesses throughout the Southeast, leaving behind a lasting legacy of his creativity and love for beauty.

Charlie and his beloved wife, Freddie, enjoyed traveling to art shows, meeting people, and sharing in the joy of his artwork. These experiences brought them many wonderful memories and friendships over the years.

In addition to his love of painting, Charlie enjoyed the game of golf, especially his Friday golf rounds with the “boys” from Meridian. He treasured the time spent on the golf course with his grandson, Shane, whom he introduced to the game at a young age. Those special rounds together created memories that will be cherished forever. In his younger years, Charlie also enjoyed fishing, boating, and hunting.

Above all else, Charlie took tremendous pride in his family. He thought of them as his greatest joy and always loved spending time with them and making memories. He was quite a character, truly “one of a kind” with an incredible sense of humor, infectious laughter, and an amazing smile. His warmth and personality made him unforgettable to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Freddie Towle; his daughter, Gina, affectionately known as a daddy’s girl; his son-in-law, Alan, whom he loved as his own son; and his grandson, Shane, whom he adored and thought the world of. He is also survived by many special friends and family members who will forever cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Milda Towle; and his sister, Helen Rayfield, and her husband, Jim.

Charlie will be missed more than words can say. Yet his faith, his love, his artwork, and the example he set will live on in the lives of those who were blessed to call him Husband, Daddy, Papaw, and Friend. A lifetime of beautiful memories will be treasured by all who knew and loved him.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 15, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Meridian Baptist Church, 6513 Chapman Hwy, Knoxville, TN 37920. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM, with Rev. Dana Fachman officiating.

Family and friends will meet Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery for a 12:30 PM committal service.
