Cody Lee Green is a dedicated son, brother, marine, friend, and leader whose passing has left his loved ones heartbroken. Cody was a beloved man and soldier whose courage, loyalty, and compassion inspired everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He carried himself with humility, strength, and an unshakeable sense of purpose. Those who served with him remember not only his professionalism and leadership but also his kindness, humor, and genuine care for others.
Cody grew up in a happy home filled with love and laughter with his twin brother Colby, and his sweet mother Jill. The three of them were inseparable and made wonderful memories that they will hold onto forever. Family was always the most important thing to him and he would do anything for the people he loved. He was confident, radiant and always the funniest and coolest person in the room. His laugh was contagious and his energy was magnetic. Everyone wanted to be his friend, and he was kind enough to be anyone’s friend. Though his time on earth was far too short, he lived every minute of his life to the fullest. His legacy will live on through those who were changed by his presence.
Cody was not only a dedicated family member and friend, he also excelled in his academic, athletic and professional career. He played football for 10 years and went on to play varsity football at Hardin Valley Academy in Knoxville where he graduated in May 2018. He attended The Citadel Academy in Charleston starting in August 2018 where he had been presented with a preferred walk-on offer for football.
Early in his days at The Citadel, Cody served as Company Clerk and as Cadre, and later on was a proud member of the Summerall Guard. He was a member of India Company until his senior year, when he was named the Company Commander for Echo Company. He graduated Cum Laude in Accounting in May 2022 and was the Wilson Ring recipient that year, an award that one graduate receives each year who exemplifies the values of The Citadel. He was proud to serve on the Honor Board and in any other capacity The Citadel called upon him. Cody was a humble servant leader who never sought out any of the accolades he earned.
First Lieutenant Cody Green enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 2019 and completed Boot camp in Paris Island as the Honor Graduate of his platoon. As he continued his journey from the Citadel into the Marine Corps, he traveled cross-country to fulfill his commitment. He reported to Camp Pendleton as a 0802 Field Artillery Officer, where he was a Fire Support Officer for 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment. He was recently deployed overseas to the Philippines and Australia where he bravely served his country and lead his Marines every step of the way. Cody’s unwavering dedication to his country was admirable as he embodied the values of honor, courage, and commitment.
Cody had a rare ability to lift the spirits of those around him, always quick with a smile or a word of encouragement even in the toughest moments. To his loved ones, Cody was family in every sense of the word. He formed bonds that went far beyond friendship, connections built on mutual respect, love, and shared experiences. His warmth, his integrity, and his steadfast loyalty touched countless hearts and will continue to do so for years to come.
To know Cody was to know strength, compassion, and heart. He lived with purpose and gave his all to every moment, every friendship, every mission.
Rest in peace, Cody Lee Green. Your love, your laughter, and your strength will never be forgotten. May you find eternal peace and watch over those who love you, just as you always watched over them in life.
