Curtis "Dale" Gibson Sr.

Curtis “Dale” Gibson Sr., 62, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away on September 11, 2026. Born May 7, 1964, Dale lived a life marked by steady devotion, tireless work, and a loyalty you could count on—delivered, whenever possible, with a well-timed grin and a joke that made the day feel lighter.

For 43 years, Dale dedicated himself to Witt Building Material Company, showing up with the kind of work ethic that doesn’t need fanfare to be noticed. He was dependable in the way that truly matters—quietly, consistently, and with a selfless willingness to do what needed doing.

Dale married his childhood sweetheart, Mary Sharp, and together they built 16 years of love, partnership, and family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, the kind of man whose care was felt in the everyday moments, through presence, through effort, and through the loyalty he gave so freely.

A gifted and avid guitar player, Dale could let a few strings say what words didn’t always need to. He was also a lifelong University of Tennessee Vols fan, faithful through every season, with the same steadfast spirit he brought to everything else. Add in a love for antique cars, and you had a man who appreciated craftsmanship, character, and anything with a good story behind it.

Dale was a member of Middlebrook Pike Baptist Church, where his life reflected a steady commitment to faith and community, never showy, always sincere.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Gibson; his children, Curtis Gibson, Jr. (Nikki Jenkins), Brittany Gonzalez (Carlos), Joseph Gibson (Krystal), Audrey Lowe (Peyton); step-daughters, Tina Wormsley, Amy Whitaker, Tanesy Rainwater, and Katie Wilkerson; brothers, Brian Gibson (Hattie) and Damien Gibson; and 15 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Berry Highland Memorial, 5315 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, Tennessee 37919, on September 17, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. A committal service will follow in Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery.
