David Eugene Cox

David Eugene Cox, 66, died suddenly on Friday, July 26, 2024, in Lenoir City, TN. David was born and raised in East Tennessee. He attended West High School and after a brief career as an electrician, moved to working in the hospitality industry where he recently retired from O’Charley’s Restaurant after a 35 year career.

He was the husband to Barbara Cox (Conner) who he married December 31st, 1985. David was a devoted husband, father, and Papaw and cherished spending time with his family whenever he could. He enjoyed travel, boating, woodworking, golf, and listening to Buddy Guy. Throughout David’s life, he influenced and mentored countless people and had a huge impact on many. Those left to cherish his memory are his spouse Barbara, daughters Stephanie Wheeler (Joey Wheeler) and Rachel Pruett (Hank Pruett), granddaughters Vivian Wheeler, Claire Wheeler, and Dorothy Pruett, sister Angie Wooten as well as many extended family members and close friends.

David is preceded in death by father Gordon Cox, mother Wanda Cox, brother Gordon Cox Jr.

David will surely be missed as he was a beloved figure in our lives. He was always sure to be there when you needed him and to give you the advice that you didn’t always want to hear. If he was here today, he would be sure to say, “live and let live”.

Receiving of friends will be held on Thursday, August 15th from 5-7pm EST at Weaver Funeral Home in Knoxville, TN.
