At age 11, while delivering newspapers on his route, David, then a carrier salesman for the Knoxville News-Sentinel, was tragically struck by a car while riding his bicycle.The injuries received from this accident left David with Cerebral Palsy. Despite all of the challenges he faced, David remained cheerful, independent and living on his own.
He attended Halls High School and held employment at the Cerebral Palsy Center and Walmart. He enjoyed spending time on his computer and making address return labels for his friends.
David was a faithful member of Mount Olive Baptist Church where he was baptized June 11, 1972. He was a member of the Special Friends Bible Fellowship Class and found great joy in participating in Special Friends Camp, class outings and gatherings. David found purpose in life through his Savior, Jesus and spread joy with his smile and cheerful spirit.
David was preceded in death by his parents, John Houston McBride, Sr. and Dorothy Nyleen Bell McBride; sister, Nyleen Perdue; brothers, John Houston McBride, Jr. and James Marvin "Butch" McBride. He was survived by his many friends and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at their convenience Sunday, October 12, 2025 and Monday, October 13 2025, from 9:00 AM until 4:00PM in the parlors of Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Hwy, Knoxville, TN 37920. Friends will gather at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 2500 Maryville Pike, Knoxville, Tennessee 37920 Tuesday, October 14, 2025 from 4-6 PM with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 6 PM. Dr. Kirby Ownby officiating. Friends will gather at Mount Olive Cemetery on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at 1 PM for graveside services.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Kirk, Ed Bush, Bruce Duncan, Mark Nipper. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ronnie Hickey, Sr., Shawn VanKirk, Von Saylor, Vonnie Saylor, Harry Blagg, Tommy Compton, Richard Dotson and Tate Burroughs, members of the Special Friends Bible Fellowship Class.
