A wonderful and amazing woman left this world on Saturday, April 1, 2023. Debra (Debbie) Damesworth went peacefully in her sleep relaxing in her recliner surrounded by her cat Bimini and her fish Midnight. Debbie was an avid lover of her family, political discussions, narrative nonfiction, and every animal she ever met (and the ones she didn’t meet, too). Debbie made it her job to emotionally support her family and act as glue to hold them all together. Some of her greatest accomplishments include obtaining her nursing license, loving with her whole self, raising her son, and quitting smoking.
She will truly be missed by everyone who knew her. Debbie is survived by her son Nathan Damesworth (Matt) of Knoxville; her ex-husband and best friend Dan Damesworth (Cindy) of Knoxville; her sisters Theresa Martinez of Knoxville, Josie Epperson (Curtis) of Orlando, and Mary Beth Lane of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews scattered throughout the U.S.A.; and two grand-dogs Ragnar and Emma. Debbie is preceded in death by her sister Viva Renee Boyd, and her parents Cornelia Cash and Joseph Collopy.
The family will be gathering soon to spread her ashes in nature as she would want and host a celebration of her astonishing life. In lieu of flowers, please honor Debbie’s memory by performing loving acts of kindness towards those you love, complete strangers, and the animals of Young-Williams Animal Center… just as she would have done herself.
