Dorothy Mae Claxton, 85, passed away on October 9, 2026. Born April 16, 1941, Dorothy made her home in Seymour, TN , and in her later years resided in Clinton, TN. She leaves behind a life warmly remembered for steady devotion, openhearted love, and the quiet strength of a woman who showed up for others again and again.
Dorothy was of the Baptist Faith, and her faithfulness could be felt not only in what she believed, but in the way she lived—offering kindness freely, welcoming people easily, and treating friends and strangers alike with the same sincere care. She was truly beloved and cherished, known as someone who loved everyone and never met a stranger.
A hard-working presence throughout her life, Dorothy worked at Wagners/Federal Mogul for many years. She carried that same diligence into her home and family life, where her love was practical and generous—especially in the ways she cared for others. She enjoyed cooking for others, and many will remember how her table, her food, and her time made people feel at home.
Dorothy’s hands were rarely still. She was an avid quilter and made sure all of her family had their very own quilt—stitches of comfort and reminders of her enduring love. She also delighted in fishing at Douglas Lake, treasuring the simple joy of being outdoors and sharing peaceful moments with those she loved. Above all, she loved her family and grandchildren, and that love remains one of her most lasting gifts.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Clarence Galyon; her mother, Hazel Galyon; her husband, Evan Claxton; her son-in-law, Roger "Dale" Hardin; and her brothers, A.C. Galyon and Lonnie Galyon.
She is survived by her sister, Liz Cogdill; her daughters, Freida Claxton Seivers (Michael), Delane Claxton Hardin, and Kelly Claxton Thomas; her grandchildren, Derek Floyd (Jessica), Lorin Sowers (Christopher), Rebecca Olsen (Shaun), and Brent Holder; and Ten Great Grandchildren and One Great Great Grandson.
Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 pm on October 14, 2026, at Berry Highland South Cemetery, 9010 E Simpson Rd, Knoxville, TN 37920.
