

Wade, Dorothy Smith, age 88, of Knoxville, was taken by Jesus on Thursday, November 28, 2013 to her Heavenly home to be with Him and her beloved husband, Jim. She was a charter member of Chilhowee Hills Baptist Church. She had taught the Dot Wade Sunday School class for many years, retiring in 2011. She leaves this group of ladies, whom she loved dearly, to carry on. She also taught at McCalla Avenue and North Knoxville Baptist Churches. Dorothy and her husband, James operated Wade’s Bakery in Knoxville. When the bakery was sold in 1978, she retired as Vice-President. She was a former member of the Burlington Order of the Eastern Star, where James was a Past Patron. She was a board member for the Burlington Rainbow Girls. She was an avid writer all her life. She hand wrote hundreds of Sunday School lessons, a book entitled, “A Study of the Apostles”, a book entitled, “A Study on Revelations”, a short story entitled, “A Boy and His Dog”, and a collection of poems entitled, “My Rosebuds”. Dorothy was a great mother, kind grandmother, and loving great-grandmother. She loved all flowers, but especially roses. Her husband, James always had roses for her on special occasions. She grew up in Talbott, Tennessee and graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1943, but her adult life was spent in Knoxville. She devoted her life to her Savior and Lord. She loved her family very much. Her favorite Bible scripture was Psalms 46:1, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Her testimony was her poem, “Trusting In Jesus.” Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, James G. Wade, President of Wade’s Bakery; parents, Sherman and Olive Midkiff Smith; brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Loucille Smith; brother, Jay G. Smith; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lura Belle and L.V. Oaten, and Lorene and Kenneth Day. She is survived by her daughters, Judy (Johnny) King, and Jamie (Jerry) Lewis; grandchildren: Jim (LeAnn) Lewis, Jeremy Lewis, Jennifer (Clinton) Parton, and Stephen (Lauren) King; great-grandchildren: Mason and Baylee Lewis; Bowen, Dorothy, Abigail, and Noah Parton; and Ember King. She also leaves several extended family members. Family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM in the Chapel of McCarty Evergreen Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 3:00 PM, Rev. David Collins officiating. Family and friends will meet at Eastview Cemetery on Monday at 1:00 PM for the interment service. Honorary pallbearers will be the Dot Wade Sunday School Class.
