Mr. Lee was a retired truck driver for TVA where he worked for 39 years. In WWII he was a Medic in the 13th General Hospital Division of the Army serving in Osaka, Japan. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and Victory Medal WWII Army of Occupation Medal (Japan). The last eight months of his life Mr. Lee lived at the Ben Atchley Tennessee State Veterans Home in Knoxville, where he was loved by all. They called him "99" up till his 100th birthday and then Mr. Lee said just call him number one.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother Luke Stanford and Georgia McCarter Lee and wife of 75 years Juanita Hodge Lee, son Samuel S. Lee, daughter Patricia Ann Lee Hatch, grandson Samuel S. Lee, Jr., brothers Oliver, Robert, and Charley Lee, sisters Edith Suda and Sarah Dunaway. Survivors include brother Roy Lee, sister Nora Sloan and Emma Lou Schultz, daughter-in-law Becky Lee, grandchildren Kimberly Ford, Terry Lee, Regina Lee Ward, Stephanie Hatch, and RuthAnn Lee Shepler. Also survived by great grandchildren Colin Lee Ford, Thomas Lee, Luke Lee, Betsy Elizabeth Lee, David Ward USAF, Sarah Ward, Deanna Shepler, and Lori Shepler, and great-great granddaughters Stephanie Lee and Abigail Lee.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. at Berry Highland Memorial on Thursday April 19th, with Rev. Mark Branham officiating. A graveside service will immediately follow at Berry Highland Memorial cemetery, 5315 Kingston Pike, Knoxville. The family wishes to extend its heartfelt thanks to both the Staff of Ben Atchley for the loving care you provided. We will always be grateful.
