Edith Williams Carter

Edith Williams Carter age 83 of Knoxville, passed away January 8, 2019. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Throughout her life she was involved with United Methodist Women and The American Council for the Blind. In later years she was a volunteer with Volunteer Ministries. She graduated from National Business College. Preceded in death by her husband, James O. Carter; parents, Lewis and Estell Williams, brothers, Charlie Williams and Lewis Williams, Jr.; sisters, Dorothy Birchett and Ora Underwood. Survived by sons, Martin Carter and Andy Carter; grandchildren, William, Amanda and Travis; great grandson, Tyson; brother, Johnny Williams; sisters, Fae Lowe and Neta Phillips; several nieces and nephews. Her Strength and perseverance was inspiration to all. The family will receive friends 5-7 pm Saturday at Weaver's Chapel with the service to follow at 7 pm. Family and friends will meet at 12:45 pm Sunday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for a 1 pm interment. Condolences may be left at

Edith was the wonderful front desk receptionist at the Volunteer Ministry Center where I was a volunteer. It was a joy to know her.
