Woodson, Edith Claire Newell was born December 13, 1923 in Evergreen, AL and went to be with her Lord on January 1, 2012. She was raised in Clanton, AL, and became a Registered Nurse through St. Margaret’s Hospital School of Nursing in Montgomery, AL, and worked as a nurse until 1954. Edith was a long-time devoted member of Church Street United Methodist Church where she and Stuart were members of the Murphy Builders Sunday School Class. She was a member of United Methodist Women and Administrative Board and was always involved in caring for the sick and shut-in members of the church. Through her husband’s involvement with the Reserve Officer’s Association, Edith was very involved with membership and coordination of conventions on the State level with the ROAL (Ladies auxiliary). She was preceded in death by parents, Herbert Moses Newell, Sr. and Mabel Fallin Newell, loving husband of 54 years, Thomas Stuart Woodson, sister, Wanda Gernhofer, brother-in-law, Roy Hayes, brother and sister-in-law, Herbert Newell, Jr. and Jeanie Newell, sister-in-law, Lib Woodson, and father- and mother-in-law, Ryland Duke Woodson and Margaret Harriett Woodson. She is survived by sons, Thomas Warren (Woody) Woodson and Robert Stuart (Bob) Woodson and daughter-in-law, Kathy Woodson. Grandchildren: Andrew A. Thurman, Kristina T. Grzep and husband, Christopher, Jessica Galyon and husband, Jimmy, Cassie Jones and husband, Jason), Matthew Woodson and wife, Meredith, Gabriel Woodson and wife, Amanda, and Gracie Woodson. Great grandchildren: Sydney and Casey Grzep, Ethan, Emma and Gavin Jones, Claire, Isabella and Jackson Galyon, Ella and Thomas Woodson. Family: Sister, Nita Hayes, sister-and brother-in-law, Martha W. and Larry Faulk, brother-in-law, Bill Woodson and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Thursday at Church Street United Methodist Church in the chapel followed by the funeral at 6 p.m. Private interment service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery on Friday at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to Church Street United Methodist Church St., P.O.
