Elizabeth "Libby" Pinkston, age 79, of South Knoxville, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2024, in her beloved hometown. Born on February 15, 1945, in Knoxville, Tennessee, Libby was the cherished daughter of Hayden Wilson Simpson and Mabel Idle Price. She was preceded in death by her loving parents and her siblings: Mark Price, Terry Price, and Rebecca "Susie" Barker. Libby’s life was a testament to love, joy, and devotion. She was united in marriage to her late husband, Commissioner Howard "Nookie" Pinkston, who passed away in 2004. Together, they raised two wonderful sons, Scott Pinkston (Stephanie) and Doug Pinkston (spouse Tim Work). Libby’s greatest joy was her grandson, Bryce Pinkston, who brought immeasurable happiness to her life. Libby also leaves behind her dear friend Robin Clifton, whose companionship was always a constant source of comfort and joy. Libby was a true South Knoxville native, whose heart was as warm as her smile. She had a deep love for UT football, enjoyed laughing and telling stories, and cherished her morning cup of coffee. Her nurturing spirit was evident in her many years of dedicated service at the Sevier Heights Baptist Church daycare center, where she lovingly cared for countless children. A devout Baptist and lifelong member of Sevier Heights Baptist Church, Libby’s faith was a guiding light throughout her life. She is now reunited with her husband, her beloved dog Lucky, and the family and friends who preceded her in death. Family and friends will meet for a graveside service to honor Libby’s memory which will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery, 4500 Woodlawn Pike, Knoxville, TN 37920, with arrangements made through Berry’s Funeral Home, in South Knoxville. Pastor Don Wilson will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the animal shelter of your choice, reflecting Libby’s compassion for both people and pets. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to UT Hospice and the nursing staff at West Moreland Health and Rehabilitation Center for their exceptional care and support. Libby lived a wonderful life, and while she will be dearly missed, we take comfort in knowing she is at peace, reunited with loved ones.
