

He was born on January 10, 1933 in Joshua, TX. After growing up in Texas, Emmett joined the Navy and found the love of his life, Carol Nesbit. Carol was his bride of 62 years before her passing. In addition to serving in the Navy, he also joined the Air national Guard and the Army Reserves. Before retirement, Emmett worked in Oak Ridge at each of the plants, mostly as an electrician and a planner. He enjoyed his membership in the Masons and the Shriners, and also served on the Board of Directors of Y-12 Federal Credit Union.
Those that knew him remember his generosity, his devotion to his wife and family, and his unmistakable laugh.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, sister, and his beloved wife Carol Nesbit Jenkins.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Rachel (Jim) Scruggs and Ruth (Richard) Lane; grandchildren, Jennifer Crabtree, Ryan Lane, Carrie Nowlin, and Jessie Sauceda. Emmett also leaves behind 6 great-grandchildren and numerous other beloved family members.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to Ben Atchley Veterans Home where Emmett resided for the past 5 years. He was truly happy there, and often said they spoiled him. Also, Smoky Mountain Hospice was such a comfort during his last days.

A Receiving of Friends will be held at Berry Highland West, 9913 Sherrill Blvd, Knoxville, TN 37932, on July 22, 2026, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm, followed by a Funeral Service at 7:00 pm.
Emmett has asked that his ashes be buried with his wife Carol's ashes at the Chota Masonic Lodge in Farragut.
