
Ernest C. Ford Jr, age 90, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Sunday, January 29, 2017. He was born June 14, 1926 in Bradford Co., Tn. He was the son of the late Ernest Columbus Ford, Sr and Dorothy Kersey Ford. He will be remembered for his willingness to always help others. He served his country in The U.S. Army during WWII. He graduated from The University of Tennessee and then moved to Detroit, Michigan to work for Chrysler and was an owner of a gas station during that time as well. After retiring from Chrysler, he moved back to Tennessee where he became the owner and operator of The Way-Oma Motel in Seymour, Tennessee for over 50 years. He was a member of Meridian Baptist Church and a member of the Moose Lodge Chapter #1560 in Knoxville. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Emily Floyd Ford, sister Betty Bailey and nephew Charles Allen Bailey. He is survived by his fiancé and caregiver Cathy Armstrong of Seymour, a niece Lisa, his feline companion Ellie Mae, as well as numerous cousins and a host of friends. As per Ernie’s request there will be no public visitation. Family and friends will meet at 2:45 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Berry Highland South Cemetery 9010 E. Simpson Rd. for a 3:00 p.m. entombment service with military honors. Rev. Jim Kitts will be officiating. A celebration of life service is to be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Random Act of Flowers, My People Fund through The Dollywood Foundation or a charity of your choice.
