Frances Bridges Loveday, born in Weaver, Alabama, November 7, 1925. died July 6, 2020 at the age of 94. She came to the University of Tennessee in 1943 & resided in Knoxville all of her adult life. She was married to her college sweetheart, William (Bill) Loveday for 45 Years and widowed in 1992.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Steve Johnson and her 2 granddaughters, Malory and Kayla Johnson. Mrs. Loveday loved learning and from an early age was an avid reader. English was her favorite subject. She was a majorette in her high school band and was in the quill club. She went onto the University of Tennessee to be a majorette in the band and to study English and writing. She wanted to become a journalist. While in school she worked at the local newspaper and her 1st job after graduating was writing ads for the local radio station. She was very involved with the Baptist Student Union putting out their first newsletter called the BSU BY-LINES and dated the president who in a few years became her husband. She went on to work for almost 15 years as an administrative assistant to an environmental consultant at TVA studying soil samples from all over the country until she became a mother. She spent many years helping with English papers and serving as secretary of the PTA.
All her life she never lost the desire to learn and read everything she could get her hands on. She read the News Sentinel cover to cover every day and seemed to always know a little about everything. Mrs. Loveday was a devoted grandmother, mother and aunt. She was quiet and not very social but very kind and generous to everyone. She was strong and fiercely independent but always ready with a hug and a big smile. Her caregiver in the last year of her life called her, “Sunshine”. She said she loved coming to see Mrs. Loveday because she brightened her day. She will be remembered fondly and missed by her family.
Graveside Services will be held Thursday, July 9, 2020, 2:00pm at Woodlawn Cemetery, 4500 Woodlawn Pike, Knoxville, TN 37920 with Rev. Mark Moreland officiating. The family invites friends to share fond memories and sign the online guest book at www.berryfuneralhome.com.
