He was born in Covington, VA on May 25, 1943 to Eula and Frank Ralsten and grew up in Clifton Forge, VA. He received his bachelor’s degree from Emory and Henry College in Emory, VA and his master’s degree at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Frank enjoyed his time teaching in Clifton Forge, VA, Harriman, TN, and as a teaching assistant at the University of Tennessee. He took great pride working for United Parcel Service, where he began as a part-time pre-loader, while in graduate school. He went on to serve as a driver, supervisor, and ultimately, as manager at the Oliver Springs Center.
Frank found joy and purpose in serving his family and community in many ways. His family will remember his love of history, playful spirit, beautiful singing voice, generous heart and his talent for creating meaningful holiday memories. Neighbors knew him as “Mr. Frank” – giver of the best Halloween toys, 4th of July fireworks, and the one always ready to help clear driveways, cut fallen trees, or lend a needed tool. His commitment to service extended to Church Street United Methodist Church where he volunteered faithfully through the Soup Kitchen, Preschool Board, Sunday School, fundraising efforts and the Properties Committee.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Elaine Ralston; daughter, Ambree Rogers (Chris), and sons, Devin Ralston (Beth Ann), and Preston Ralston. His memory lives on with three grandchildren, Landon and Adelyn Rogers, and Gavin Ralston. He will also be remembered by his sister, Dorothy Walter (Dave) and brother, David Ralsten. The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, love and support. They want to thank The Lantern at Morning Pointe Hardin Valley and Amedisys Hospice for their care through his illness.
A celebration of life will be held at Church Street United Methodist Church, Saturday, November 8 at 1pm followed by receiving of friends.
