Fred Langley grew up on a small cattle farm in Oakdale, Tennessee, where he learned the value of hard work and good trades - both of which he continued the rest of his life. He always called himself a country boy, but he could make deals with the best from Main Street to Wall Street, all the while helping others from all walks of life.
From these humble beginnings emerged a larger-than-life entrepreneur and investor who thrived in business - his favorite “hobby.” Fred was the epitome of a "people person." He could light up a room with his stories, and inspire many with his magic of thinking big. He enjoyed racing cars and watching NASCAR, singing gospel music, and spending time with Faye, his beloved wife and best friend of 45 years.
Fred is best remembered as the life force and heart of his family. In addition to Faye, he is survived by his children, Monica Langley, Lisa Langley and Jim King, Julie and Fabian Campos, and James and Monica Travis; grandchildren, Johnathan Travis, Langley Grace Wallace, Magnus Campos, Centre King, William Travis, Gisele Campos, Melissa King, Jacob Travis, Zara Campos and Bronte Campos. Fred was predeceased by his parents, Cecil and Rose Langley; siblings, Marjorie Kittrell, Ralph Langley and Mildred Carroll.
Fred, 86 years old, passed away peacefully at home on Monday after several years of ill health.
The memorial service, officiated by Doug Banister, will include music by Bill Gaither, Con Hunley and Beverly Kerr. It will be held at First Baptist Church in downtown Knoxville on Thursday, June 22 at 2 p.m., with the reception and receiving of friends afterwards in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the charity of your choice.
