Fred H. Long

Born on January 31, 1941, in Blount County, Tennessee, Fred was a proud United States Army veteran, a master custom home builder, and a lifelong resident of the Knoxville area. For more than 45 years, he dedicated himself to building not only beautiful custom homes, but a reputation founded on integrity, craftsmanship, and an unwavering work ethic.

In 1966, Fred married the love of his life, Pam. Together they built a life centered on family and a business that reflected their shared talents. Fred built the homes, while Pam brought them to life through her remarkable eye for design. They were true partners in every sense, working side by side in their family business and leaving their mark on countless homes throughout East Tennessee.

Fred was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes. He believed that providing for his family was one of life’s greatest responsibilities and expressions of love. His quiet strength, determination, and steadfast commitment to those he loved defined his character far more than words ever could.

Beyond his work, Fred had a special place in his heart for his animals, especially his dogs. They were faithful companions throughout his life, and caring for them brought him great joy. His gentle affection for them reflected a softer side that those closest to him knew well.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Pamela K. Long; his parents, Lydia and William Long; and many cherished family members, pets, and friends who welcomed him home.

Following Pam’s passing in 2011, Fred deeply missed his beloved wife. After nearly 15 years apart, his family finds comfort in knowing they are together once again.

Fred is survived by his son, Danny (Graeme); daughter, Chris (Alex); grandson, Nick, whom he loved dearly; sister, Irene (Boyd); his brother-in-law, Chris Liddycoat (Pat); and several nieces and nephews.

Fred’s legacy lives on in the family he loved, the homes he built, the lives he touched, and the values of hard work, perseverance, and dedication that he instilled in those who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

There will be a private family ceremony to honor Fred's life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Young-Williams Animal Shelter in Knoxville, TN, or the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund in Arlington, Virginia.
