Garry Paul Childers, age 72, of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 18, 2021. He was born in a small coal camp in Ajax, Kentucky. Known by the nickname "Chilly" to his work family at AmerCable, he loved his family and especially his two grandsons, Rocco and Cash. He enjoyed anything Kentucky Athletics, fast cars and collecting pocket knives. Garry's main hobby was his work, including anything related to coal mining. Upon retirement he spent the last 6 years working with his son and his Filmax family in oil filtration. Garry was a devoted and faithful husband of 51 years. He was a member of First Baptist Concord and was dedicated to his Lord and Savior.
Garry is preceded in death by his parents, Sherman Lee and Amy Jones Childers; brothers, Herschel Childers, R.C. Childers, Sherman Lee Childers, Jr. and Ronnie Childers; and sisters, Bonnie Asher and Shirley Baker.
He is survived by his wife, Lottie Noble Childers; son, Sherman Matthew Childers; daughter-in-law, Whitney Childers; grandsons, Rocco and Cash Childers; brother, Kenneth C. Childers; sisters, Margaret Farr and Wanda Sexton; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 24, 2021 from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at Berry Highland West, 9913 Sherrill Blvd, Knoxville, TN 37932. There will be a funeral service at 2:00 PM with interment to follow in Berry Highland West Cemetery.
